  1. Animated films that I’ve graded:

    Your Name. – R/HR
    Perfect Blue – MS
    Duck Amuck – MP
    What’s Opera, Doc? – MS
Tale of Tales – MP (a huge masterpiece, top 50 of all time)
    Memories – HR
    Robot Carnival – R/HR
Night on the Galactic Railroad – MP
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (Complete) – HR
South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut – R
    Megazone 23 – R/HR
    Megazone 23 Part II – R

I am doing a bit of an anime study, and hoping to get to Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Kare Kano, FLCL, the Patlabor films, and at least a few more. Of these, I’d recommend Night on the Galactic Railroad as the best feature film, and Advent Children as the best pleasant surprise – much better than its reputation.

If you do watch Night on the Galactic Railroad, I recommend waiting at least a few days to give it a grade: When I first saw it, I didn’t fall in love, but rated it at Highly Recommended. It was only a few weeks later, as it played in my head, that I saw how deeply formally layered and interwoven it was – one of the most layered and intricate pieces of form I’ve ever seen.

  2. Very interesting list ! I would defenitely say you should watch Angel’s Egg by Mamoru Oshi (director of ghost in the shell) or The Tale of the princess Kaguya. Both would personally trump even across the Spider verse for me.
